View from the opposition – Burnley Away

Kindly answered by Paul from oop north, a land of terrible haircuts, evil mill owners, and women who drop their knickers in exchange for a Campari and cherryade.

Coffee wonders “What’s wrong with Sean Dyche's voice? It always makes me want to clear my throat.”?

Don’t think a proper answer has ever been given to this question. His son has started playing for Northampton Town, wonder what his voice is like?

Tonka would like to ask you “Small, inoffensive northern club, with a good kit, trading on a glorious history and irregular bursts of good form... What else can you tell us about Blackburn?”.

See, here I have a bit of a problem. As a Lancastrian living in Yorkshire I have more of an issue with Leeds and that fella that sits on a bucket. Blackburn have become a bit of an irrelevance to be fair, agent Mobray is following up on the brilliant work of Ince and others

Side of Ham would be interested to know” That Burnley fan on I’m a celebrity didn’t do your Northern hard man image much good did he? Made you all look like you need a big cuddle, what has gone wrong?

To be fair, the lad is a genuine fan and not a plastic so I’ll forgive him. It’s the TV commentators that need the cuddle, every bloody game banging on about how cold it is, put a vest on FFS

Mr Kenzo is more concerned about “Have you replaced the 32in TV in the away end yet?”. Ha, ha, haven’t been in the away end since it was the home end, nice new plastic seats though to replace the wooden one’s every bugger used to moan about (even though they were infinitely more comfortable) Still wooden seats where I sit.

A very good question coming from Branded. “I know a Burnley fan, who expects Burnley to be shit so does share a lot in common with many West Ham fans. Do you ever see a future where you’re not just clinging on?

Think most of us are glass half empty, can’t see us achieving anything much beyond the odd flirtation with the Europa League…..depends on the new American owners. New Chairman making the right noises but very early days. Big Summer ahead especially if Tarkowski moves on plus interest in McNeil and Pope.

Rossall asks “Sean Dyche has done an amazing job to keep you in the prem with half the squad bottom half championship players....... but is there any part of the fanbase that would rather someone come in to give it a go and play some semi attractive football?”
See, we play better football than our reputation would suggest. I’m personally fine with the way we play especially with a proper centre forward up top in Wood and tough as nails centre halves. “Bottom half championship players :) that’ll be right LOL

In 1914 Burnley won the FA cup. What went wrong the next 107 times?

We are so crap in the cup, mind you 1914 was at Crystal Palace and we always win there. My first away game was 1974 FA Cup Semi Final at Hillsborough V Newcastle, Norman Hunter had crippled half our team the week before and we haven’t recovered since.

Barty is keen to know “How much will we have to pay for Tarkowski and Woods in the summer?”.

Ha, WOOD, no S……..Tarkowski should go for around 45m, not sure he’s top 6 material (you might be OK), can’t see Wood going anywhere, McNeil is the real star

Eswing hammer asks “Why did you copy Aston Villa’s kit ?”

It’s actually true so fair cop, what’s your excuse? We played in green and black for a while

One from Sven Roeder. “How much longer do you think Dyche will stay with the lack of board support he has complained about previously?”

Do you know what, he’s sort of equally guilty for spaffing a lot of cash on players he doesn’t use, Ben Gibson, Vydra only just starting to get a game now, that’s the best part of 30m. He’s apparently on the top wages outside the top 6 so I reckon he might put up with it. I think he’s party to a bit of a game with the board and he plays up on it on their behalf.

Speaking of Dyche, he’s done an exceptional job in keeping the Premier League money rolling in. But, with respect, under his management, you are seen as a team that stops other teams playing with a rigid, direct system. Are you happy with this or would you like to see a new manager try to bring some more flair and expansive style to Burnley? Asks Russ of the BML.

That’s how we are seen but not how we are. Occasionally when the squad is bare bones through injury we can try to shut up shop but we actually play decent stuff when our core 15 players are available. Our disciplinary record is outstanding. I’m happy for Dyche to carry on as long as he wants to, job for life. If he goes I reckon Mike Duff at Cheltenham will be a perfect replacement

Balto asks “Burnley’s new chairman, Alan Pace is the new owner but used the clubs own money in the £170m US takeover and loaded it with debt. How do you feel about that?

Probably our biggest source of concern, especially seeing the ownership crap you guys have had. We’ve been a tight run ship and locally owned and this is totally out of our experience and comfort zone. I said earlier, he’s making the right noises but…..

Do you keep whippets, arsene york-hunt.

Ferrets, whippets is more Yorkshire

At this stage, we normally ask what your favourite crisps are, but I understand that in your neck of the woods you don’t consume anything unless it has a minimum 40% lard content. With that in mind, what is your favourite pie?

Hollands steak pudding, with chips, peas and curry sauce from the Park View chippy at Turf Moor

Which three WH players would you like in your squad?

Well, Dyche tried to sign Dawson for 5 years in a row so we’re bound to see him eventually, our fans also reckoned that Lingard wasn’t any good for us as a loan signing but then the town voted for Brexit so can’t be trusted, personally I like what I’ve seen of Benrahma.

What do you make of West Ham as a club?

Always had a real soft spot for WHU, lots of things in common with us, proper club and proper fans. Was at the game when the protests/ pitch invasion happened and really felt for you at the time (and still). I would be gutted if we ever left Turf Moor and must have been hard to leave Upton Park, loved my (slightly scary) visits.

And finally, your score prediction?

We’re playing well, 2-0 Burnley

Thank you, Pete.

Cheers Alfs but I would have left in the question posed by some wag on here 'Dyche has been instrumental in keeping you in the Premier League for years now, would a packet of Strepsils kill you'?

Cheers Alfs. I admired the guy deep rooted dislike for most things Yorkshire. And I know it’s uncool. And upset the hipsters. But as English managers go. Dyche is ok.

Bob Lord the chairman accused Man Utd Players of running around like teddy boys. It caused outrage as it was only a few weeks after the Munich air crash.
